OHSU is hosting a health fair today in the CHH to promote World Diabetes Day. Free health screenings are taking place until 4:30pm.

"OHSU cardiovascular medicine experts will measure:
  • Blood glucose
  • BMI (body mass index)
  • Cholesterol
  • Blood pressure
* Nurses and physicians will be on hand for consults on test results.
-- Kendall Simmons, a Superbowl XL champion and former Pittsburgh Steeler, will explain how he tackled Type 1 diabetes.
-- Certified diabetes educators from NovoNordisk will discuss carbohydrate counting and food exchanges.
-- March wellness representatives will demonstrate their Medical Exercise Program."
KGW video was on hand interviewing several OHSU employees.

The very-tall Chris Dudley is in the house, promoting
his foundation. His website has a great list of related events this week: Pacific NW Diabetes Week Events.

On the topic of diabetes, did you know that we have several diabetes technology startups in town?

  • DiabetOmics - "Pioneering non-invasive assessment of diabetes risk, progression and complications."
  • Sweet Spot Diabetes - a health data company, self-service device data retrieval and data management and reporting
