"Join the 3rd Annual Donation Drive to Benefit the Cat Adoption Team (CAT) and Oregon Humane Society (OHS). Enjoy live music by The Malea Duo. Donation boxes will be available at the event for those who wish to make a donation in any amount to CAT and OHS. Your kind donations will help to keep pets with their owners, find homes for animals in shelters, provide medical care to rescued animals, and provide a warm bed, toys, food, and love to many creatures great and small."

Grand Re-Opening of Burlingame Fred Meyer
Probably the most common question people ask me about living in the South Waterfront is: "But where do you do your grocery shopping?!" They ask with intensity. I'm always surprised that people believe this is such a serious hurdle.
Well folks, we do manage to get by, often with a quick run to Zupan's on Macadam (1.5 mi) for tonight's dinner, or even an occasional trip to Winco for bulk and necessities (7.5 mi - all freeway). The truth is we all shop at a variety of places. I see neighbors in the elevator with bags from Safeway, Whole Foods, Fred Meyer, and Zupans, as well as very frequent visits from the Safeway.com delivery truck.
However, the real secret? Burlingame Fred Meyer. Apparently not so obvious, this little store is just 1 exit down on I-5S, and ~5 min drive (I timed it this morning).
This weekend, after a $19M remodel and nearly 6 months of construction, the little store in Burlingame reopened in a big way. We took a field trip this morning to check it out. A large American flag and wall of champagne greeted us at the entrance...interesting.

Marquam Hill Lecture Series starts Thursday
This Thursday evening is the launch of a fascinating series of lectures at OHSU-- the Marquam Hill Lecture Series.
South Waterfront-ers, this is open to the public; hop the Tram and check it out. This week's talk will be covering the causes of asthma and possible future cures, with renowned researcher Allison Fryer, PhD.
"Since 1981, the OHSU Marquam Hill Lectures Series has brought together leading members of the OHSU faculty with the public to feature innovative and cutting edge biomedical research and clinical advances that will form the basis of tomorrow's cures and treatments. The Marquam Hill Lecture Series is one of the most popular and long-standing lecture series about science by scientists in Oregon. Information about the first lecture of the 2011-2012 season is now available."
