AHA Heart Walk 2012 photos

The annual Heart Walk took place this Saturday, starting at the Eastbank Esplanade and looping around the 3 mile waterfront loop. Sponsored by the American Heart Association, the event pulled in participants from a bunch of Portland organizations, including OHSU, hospitals and research centers, friends and family.

Turn-out seemed much greater than in previous years. Beautiful weather - Here are some photos from the walk:

Grimm Episode 22 Portland filming locations

Grimm Episode 22: "Woman in Black"
SEASON FINALE!
This week: "As Nick delves deeper into his life as a Grimm, a trail of grotesque murders reignites the search for the elusive gold coins."
Aired: May 18, 9:00pm PST

The Grimm Season 1 finale made its way through many familiar locations from throughout the previous 21 episodes. Noticeably missing were the bridges and forest scenes, but last weeks' episode probably made up for that. This episode also featured the lovely Mary Mastrontonio as "the Woman in Black",  who hunts down the bad guys with her Jason Bourne-esque skills.

Grimm Episode 21: "Big Feet"
In this episode: "...Nick learns the suspected creature and friend of Monroe is suffering from a mysterious condition... the inability to completely return to human form."
Aired: May 11, 9pm PST

This might be the best forest footage yet. Also some great local spotlights. No bridges this week.

The show opens with a Blair Witch style video and 2 guys tracking down Bigfoot, somewhere around "Bluff Creek Valley".

Juliette gets called out to "Tom Carson's ranch" to check on a horse that has been attacked. This may have been at or near the Roloff Farm in Hillsboro (near Helvetia Tavern, see below), as their site has been used to stage for Grimm filming.

Brinkerhoff's lecture in a library
The lecture scenes were filmed on location at the Crumpacker Family Library in the Portland Art Museum.  Confirmed here on their Facebook page; (the scene shows up at minute 22:54 for those of you who want to track it down).

Land grab in the South Waterfront?

So there is a lot of news flying these days about land purchases, expansions, Zidell, OHSU, etc. Here is a quick summary of the major headlines:

1. OHSU did buy some new land (Blocks 23 & 27), including what is currently the dahlia fields & dog park. They say that we can continue to use it for dahlias and dogs for the foreseeable future. Construction of the future OHSU patient buildings will be awhile (no immediate plans).

2. Zidell is developing more land. They just announced a proposed apartment building under the RI Bridge. They also recently purchased the 3030 Building (office building @ 3030 Moody Ave).

3. RiverPlace is not South Waterfront, even if the DJC insists on calling it so. Developers are looking at putting a new Hyatt in at RiverPlace.

And all of it leads the Portland Business Journal to ask "Is South Waterfront coming back?" This makes me wonder, where do they think it/we went???
