Everclear in E.C. park tonight

Concerts and more concerts!

Last night, Toque Libre entertained the neighborhood with their acoustic Latin tunes. Good turnout, and lots of dancing, despite the hot, HOT weather.

Ecopalooza

Coming up tonight, EVERCLEAR will be performing in Elizabeth Caruthers - Ecopalooza is a benefit concert for SOLVE, a local nonprofit cleaning up Oregon beaches. That's right, the concert begins at 2:30 with a group of local bands. We will get a nice bluegrass warmup until Everclear takes the stage at 7:30.

Fences set up early this morning
Stage setup begins
For those of you concerned about noise (it is difficult getting a baby... or yourself to bed, with a rock concert going on right outside your bedroom), they tell me the band will wrap up by 9:00.

On another note, how did we not know this was going on this weekend? I don't recall seeing any notices about it, although I looked back and did find a mention of it in the August e-Current. At any rate, enjoy the change in weather, enjoy the entertainment, enjoy the outdoors this weekend!

Improvement to Slippery Walkways

The treacherous Elizabeth Caruthers Park walkways which I wrote about in November have been given a surface-roughening treatment. I did a test this week and found the slip-factor greatly improved.

Before:
E.C. Park - November 2011
 After:
If you look closely, you can see the marks where the wood has been roughened to offer more traction and grip.
E.C. Park - April 2012
E.C. Park - April 2012
This seems to be very effective in the wet, rainy conditions. Please continue to be cautious, especially if there is frost and ice.

Hurray for the Portland Parks crew for addressing this issue!

Caution: Slippery Walkways

Beautiful but hazardous?
This is just a pedestrian safety alert about the slippery wooden pathways in Elizabeth Caruthers Park this time of year. A friend of mine slipped and fell last week, and I heard reports from several others. When I scoped it out this weekend, it was not raining, but the frost was still on the shaded paths at noon, and they were indeed very slippery.

Mystery photo contest #2

Well, this is a different kind of mystery photo contest. The mystery is: What is This Guy Doing To the Granite Slab in E.C. Park?
The wood carpet was rolled in this morning, and a guy in a white van started doing some kind of work with an electric power tool. (I thought maybe he was etching his initials in but checked later and no sign of that.)
Here's a picture of the stone after he finished. I'm sure there must be a second part of this production coming soon.
Does anyone know what he is doing?

New photos added on Friday:

It looks like he just removed and replaced the center slab. Now working on re-cementing it.
