New Section of the South Waterfront Greenway Path Opens

The South Waterfront Greenway Path has been a long-term project which we've tracked since 2012.

For a little history, this dates back to city discussion in 2012, photos of the construction in 2015, and the Greenway grand opening in 2015.

A new section of the Greenway Path opened recently, and is finally connecting the section of path opened in 2015 with the path at the Old Spaghetti Factory.

Sharing this piece and some great photos from Jonathan Maus of BikePortland:

The Farmers' Market is back!

The South Waterfront Farmers' Market is back in action! It is happening on Thursday afternoons from 1:00-6:00pm.

There are lots of new vendors this year. Check out this new interactive map to explore.

Last Thursday's market was a hit, and the beautiful weather was an added bonus.  Thanks to the South Waterfront Community Relations for their good work on this event!

Sellwood Bridge Move

The Sellwood Bridge was moved this weekend, ever so slowly, and just 66 feet to the north. This temporary placement will be our route across the river while the new bridge is under construction...so, until 2015.

Actually, *most* of the Sellwood Bridge was moved. The main Steel Truss Span of the bridge was placed on new supports for the temporary bridge structure. The original concrete & rebar end supports were left in place and torn down today - shown in the following pictures.

Cute little Car2Go

Have you seen these little guys parked around the neighborhood this week?
After seeing about 4 of them, I was curious and had to check out the website listed on the back of the car: Car2Go.com

They are calling it "car sharing 2.0". It's a little crazy! After you become a Car2Go member, you can find a car anywhere and return it anywhere*. Here is a map of their Portland locations.
Here's how it works: "Once you hold the car2go Member Card up to the card reader on the windshield, the vehicle opens..." You enter a pin, and they bill you for the minutes you use the car.

"Park at any City of Portland controlled metered or pay station parking space that is not restricted, without paying meter fees."

Luckily these little go-cars are tiny, or I think folks would be a little annoyed about their free parking status. I haven't seen any of them move yet, but look forward to seeing if people start using the service. If you have any experience with Car2Go, or decide to try it out, I'd love to hear from you!

* Details on 'Where and Where Note to Park' are listed on their site.

Still waiting on ICE Detention Center decision

It will probably be September before we hear a decision on the ICE (Immigration & Customs Enforcement) detention center proposed new location in the South Waterfront.

South Waterfront residents participated in the public hearing this week, which was reported on by the Oregonian and Portland Biz Journal:
Fate of South Waterfront Immigration Center
City Appears to Approve Immigration Cells

"Frank’s (the City's hearings officer) decision is due Aug. 4 and can be appealed to the city council, which has until Sept. 6 to issue a final decision."
